Faculty Development Workshop organized under UNESCO Chair
Title of Workshop: Critiquing Design Studio Work
A 3 day Faculty Development Workshop was organized at City Campus NED University titled “Critiquing Design Studio Work” held from 28th to 30th October 2022. The workshop was organized under the UNESCO Chair, supervised and headed by by Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Management Sciences, NED University. Dr. Masooma Shakir and Sarah Ather Khan coordinated the workshop supported with Rabel Ahmed and Adnan Siddiqui, and staff support from City Campus. 30 participants belonging to various architectural schools and institutions from the province of Sindh and subsequently working with diversified range of academic curricula of Architectural studios took part in this 3-day workshop.
The workshop started with an overview of the three days activities planned, and an introduction to the literature on architecture design studios. Discourse related to studio pedagogies were discussed including tested experiments, observations, outcomes and challenges experienced from traditional and contemporary studio cultures and settings through presentations by Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed along with literature review and experience sharing of participants. Several professionals and academicians joined the workshop for group discussion at different times including, Ar. Qaizar Colombowala, Dr. Suneela Ahmed, Ar. Iftikhar Azam, Dr. Yasira Naeem Pasha, Ar. Fazal Noor, Ar. Arif Belgaumi, Ar. Arif Changezi, Ar. Amir Nazeer Chaudhry, Ar. Priya, Ar. Wajiha and Ar. Rafia Dadi. Later, critiquing exercises around major architects works and a role playing exercise of critiquing student work was organized and discussions built up within workshop around these. The workshop was a successful exercise that received good feedback from its participants.
