Development Studies is a vibrant arena of knowledge concerned with social and economic changes and the policy responses they present. It is a multidisciplinary branch of social sciences which addresses issues of local, regional, national and global concerns. Development Studies critically examines issues of development and under-development and the role of communities, social movements, governments of all levels, international aid organizations and multilateral financial institutions in this context. It helps to understand how our lives are transformed by social, economic and political changes at local, regional, national and international levels.
The programme shall enable the students to acquire the relevant contemporary knowledge in relevant courses from national and international contexts of relevance. It also emphasizes the importance of local knowledge and challenges the historical view of using knowledge developed countries for solving problems of developing countries. This programme shall build upon local knowledge for solving local problems by local people with local resources and surely lead to local solutions. The graduates of the programme shall contribute to society by understanding realities and reasons.
