“Bauhaus Influence on Architecture and Design in Pakistan”
11th December 2019.

To commemorate the centennial celebration of Bauhaus and NEDUET, the History Group organized an interdisciplinary symposium titled “Bauhaus Influence on Architecture and Design in Pakistan” on December 11, 2019 at the City Campus NEDUET. The symposium offered intellectual talks, panel discussions and an exhibition.

Bauhaus was one of the most revolutionary art and design schools of the twentieth century, and 2019 marks the centenary of the founding of the school in Weimar by Architect Walter Gropius. The Bauhaus movement had a huge influence on the way we live now, with its reach stretching far beyond concrete-and-glass skyscrapers. It was a place for uniting craftsmanship with the arts in the service of architecture which over the time, becoming more about uniting art with industrial techniques. Once Ludwig Mies van der Rohe took over the leadership of school in 1930, it became almost purely a school for architecture. Today, the Bauhaus is known around the world, as one of the most successful German cultural exports of the 20th century.

The symposium was based on the “Philosophical Influence of Bauhaus on the Architecture pedagogy and Design in Pakistan” that included intellectual talks followed by the experts panel discussions. The symposium was also aligned with a display, three varied exhibitions including Virtual Bauhaus, which is an interactive virtual reality exhibition of the Bauhaus building brought through the generous support of Goethe-Institute Pakistan, Utopian Dreams by Mr. Sohail Zoberi and Bauhaus inspired Projects by the 3rd year Architecture students from NED.
