Workshop 2019

8th History Group Workshop
Geometry in Design - In the Footsteps of the Masters
25th to 29th March 2019

The essence of the Islamic Architecture is reflected in the use of underlying geometric principles and proportioning system. The workshop this year was based on the analysis of simple geometric patterns and how they can be achieved through simple geometric tools used since our childhoods with a focus on studying the geometric proportioning system applied in making Islamic pointed and floral arches as done by the masters.

The workshop was broadly divided into two parts; the development of basic understanding through lectures and experiencing the tips and techniques applied by master craftsmen and the practical hands on application of these designs and amalgamation of it into a product design by the end of five days intensive learning. The objectives of the workshop were to study and work with a traditional craft based design universe which seamlessly blends design intent, geometric knowledge and fabrication process enriching learning experience.

The workshop ended with the display/exhibition with a closing ceremony. Certificate distribution ceremony was graced by Dr. Nilofer Sheikh, Chairperson at Center for Documentation and Conservation of the heritage of Sindh, EFT. The closing ceremony was well attended by professional, students and representatives from Endowment Fund Trust. The display on the closing day consisted of exhibition of murals, various models; painting and drawings produced during the week long exercise and were very well received.
